Western Australian Medical Museum

Went there today with my family visiting from overseas only to discover locked doors. 2 stars as it is a good museum and we've been before and wanted to introduce it to our family but alas, it wasn't even open. There were no signs whatsoever to indicate that the museum was shut. Disappointing.

The Western Australian Medical Museum is located in Harvey House at King Edward Memorial Hospital on the corner of Barker and Railway roads in the Perth suburb of Subiaco.The museum occupies the heritage-listed Harvey House, which became Perth's first maternity hospital in 1916. Interesting little museum with a wide variety of equipment and artifacts, and good descriptions or labels for those without a medical background. Some of the old treatments and tools are fascinating. A few of the exhibits are looking a bit tired but the place is run by volunteers and it's only $4 entry. Although it's not big allow an hour at least to see everything. Only open on Wednesday and every second Sunday.

A very interesting museum, the volunteer on today gave me a brief history and even offered to take me around to all the exhibit, but I opted to go with the self guided tour. I was given an informative information sheet as well. Definitely well worth the $5 entry fee.

Some really impressive equipment and in fantastic condition, staff were incredibly knowledgeable.
