A museum worth checking out if you are in town. Great history and background to how York became a settlement years ago.

Educational and for an old folk like me, sentimental. Shows you alot of what life was like and what the early settlers tools for coping with life was like. Also letters gives a real peak of their society.

I'd pay to check out this place!! Beautiful old building as many are in York. I'd come back to check out the inside of this place if it was possible. Maybe for the right price for the ongoing restorations to keep this icon preserved for the ages...

A visit to the award-winning Residency Museum gives you a fantastic insight into the region's history. It's an ideal way to soak up some of York's great atmosphere and find out fascinating stories about local people and places. The Museum is full of lively, colourful new exhibitions, professionally designed and covering a diverse range of themes.Built during the 1850's as the Depot Superintendent's Quarters, this historic house is now the last remaining part of York's Convict Depot. It then became the official home of the town's Resident Magistrate hence the name, the Residency.During the early twentieth century it was used as part of the Old York Hospital, later being saved from disrepair by the efforts of the York Society. It opened as a Municipal Museum in 1972 and continues to be managed by the Shire of York, with help from community volunteers.

Visited the museum yesterday. Great history about York and how the area was founded. The volunteer staffer was very helpful and friendly. Lots of hands-on things for kids to do - we even played croquet on the front lawn!
